Karbi Anglong – Poachers kill one jumbo in reserve forest

Diphu: Unidentified poachers killed one adult wild elephant at Hanboka part of Deithor reserve forest in Kaliani valley yesterday night around 9.30 pm. According to information obtained from Deithor police station of Karbi Anglong district, the poachers took away the pair of tasks from the carcass of the elephant. 

The place where the daring poaching took place is located on the South of Kuthori township in the proximity of Kaziranga national park, this also happens to be a part of kaziranga- Karbi Anglong elephant reserve. Superintendent of Police Karbi Anglong Sanjib Saikia and Sub divisional Police Officer of Bokajan John Das along with a large section of police, Forest department officials, and veterinary and wildlife experts rushed to the spot. Police and forest officials have begun an inquiry.

“The Elephant Reserve is a susceptible area; this trend is noticeable from eastern to western part of Assam, in both banks of the Brahmaputra. There had been reports of recovery of tiger bones and poaching of an elephant in Manas national park too; authority should take-up the issue seriously” said Dr. Abhajit Rabha, Ex Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Assam.
