Mariam is now undergoing treatment at Diphu Medical College & Hospital
The Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State, Karbi Farmers Association, and Karbi Students & Youth Council have condemned the incident of alleged physical torture of a lady Mariam Rongpipi by the officer-in-charge of Dokmoka Police Station of Karbi Anglong, Nilamoni Malakar, and has demanded legal action against the police officer.
Addressing a press conference held at District Press Club on September 29, chairman, of the Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State Khorsing Teron said, “We strongly condemned the physical torture perpetuated on Mariam Rongpipi by the officer in-charge of Dokmoka Police Station. The brutal imagery of wounds and marks of the physical torture on Mariam Rongpipi has gone viral on social media are appalling.”
Mariam Rongpipi is a cook at Rong Ar-e LP School, Langlokso under Samelangso police station and Kania Tokbi is serving as Karbi Language Teacher of Rong Ar-e ME school.
Maneswar Kalita, one of the teachers of Rong Ar-e ME school, Langlokso has remained missing since August 30 last. The couple Mariam Rongpipi and Kania Tokbi were asked over by police to report at Dokmoka Police Station on September 21 for questioning in connection with the desertion of Kalita. They have been arrested at Dokmoka police station that night and the officer in charge Malakar allegedly tortured them. Mariam is now undergoing treatment at Diphu Medical College & Hospital.
