Diphu : In an unofficial discussion on the border issue both Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma have agreed to take some self-assurance procedures ahead of conducting a joint trip to the areas of disparity between the two states in the month October this year.
However both the Chief Ministers told the media in Shillong yesterday that there would be a formal meeting between the states within the month of October, before taking the confidence building measures and the border visit to avoid tension. They mentioned that they will discuss the issue with the people of border villages also.
They mentioned that unlike Langpih, there should be an ambiance of festivity during the Karbi Anglong and Jaintia Hills border visit. During the second stage of border talks, both the states constituted regional committees to forward measures to resolve the dispute in six areas of disparity shared between Assam and Meghalaya.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma turned down all quarries on the demand of Meghalaya government for retransferring of Block I & II to Meghalaya.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, are leading the regional committee in Jaintia Hills border region.
