The tension peaked when Purkayastha was physically pushed toward Minister Hazarika, forcing him to leave the area amidst the growing chaos. This hostile reception comes in the wake of recent events where Purkayastha had visited the Katigara assembly constituency to gather information on flood-affected individuals.

The backdrop to today’s hostility involves a contentious rivalry between supporters of former BJP MLA Amarchand Jain and those of Kamalaksha Purkayastha, marked by a “murdabad zindabad” slogan contest.

This rivalry has evidently escalated, culminating in the violent encounter witnessed today. The altercation underscores the intense political divisions and the volatile nature of local politics in the region.
