Amongst the omitted names was the name of 50 year old farmer from the states Kamrup Rural district. He is the nephew of India’s fifth President, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. Ziauddin could not find valid documents to prove that his father entered India before the midnight of March 24, 1971.
The draft list of the Assam’s National Register of Citizens ( NRC) was published in July 2018.
According to the list, around 40 lakh applicants were left out. Amongst the omitted names was the name of a 50-year-old farmer from the states Kamrup Rural district.
This farmer, Ziauddin Ali Ahmed, is the nephew of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, India’s fifth president. Ziauddin’s father Ehtramuddin Ali Ahmed, is the younger brother of the late President.
Ehtramuddin Ali Ahmed, a doctor by training had retired from the Army as a colonel and widely acknowledged to be the first Assamese to obtain a degree in medicine.
Though most people are hopeful of finding their names in the final list to be published on August 31, Ziauddin has no such hopes.
After their names were omitted in the first list, Ziauddin did not file any fresh claims due to lack of enough documents which would establish their bloodline with the former president.
Ziauddin could not find valid documents to prove that his father entered India before the midnight of March 24, 1971.
This proved to be the biggest challenge for him is to prove their lineage through a “legacy person”.
