NEWS 1- Silchar railway station is being upgraded to be at par with any modern airport. The central government has allocated 250 crore rupees for this. PK Krishna Das, chairman of the PAC committee of the Central Railway Ministry, said this.
A team was constituted to monitor passenger facilities at various stations of the Lumding Division of the North Eastern Railway. They reached Silchar and the team has a total of 11 members, including two women. On Thursday, the team members inspected Silchar Railway Station and the adjoining area. The team members also checked what arrangements are in place for the convenience of the passengers.
Later, in a press conference, the team informed that the Central government has given special attention to taking Silchar railway station to a state-of-the-art level. For the convenience of passengers, a footbridge, waiting room, food corner, waiting shed and other facilities will be developed at the station.
This will be discussed with the DRM of the division on Saturday. He also said that this team will also conduct monitoring at Guwahati, Rangia, Dimapur, Lumding, Badarpur, Silchar, Jiriban, Bhairavi, Dharmanagar, Agartala etc.
Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty who was also present welcomed the team. He handed over a memorandum to Chairman Krishna Das with various demands including overall improvement of Silchar railway station including passenger facilities and safety, increase in trains, better quality coaches, and new trains to connect Silchar to other parts of India.
Speaking at a press conference later, Silchar MLA praised the central government for taking steps to develop the Silchar railway station.
NEWS 2- Cyclone Mandas is approaching. Due to this, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, and other states of South India will be flooded with heavy rain. The low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal has increased in strength and turned into a cyclone. The cyclone entered the Chennai coast on Thursday at midnight.
A warning has already been issued in several districts by the state government. Heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur in Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kanchipuram, and Puducherry under the influence of the cyclone. A red alert has been issued in 13 districts.
