NEWS 5- 1179 members of two militant organizations surrendered in the Barak valley region of Assam on Monday. After two decades of struggle, more than a thousand members finally officially returned to the mainstream of society on Monday. Brau Revolutionary Army of Union (BRAU) and United Democratic Liberation Army (UDLF-BV) militants surrendered. BRAU was led by Rajesh Charki.

A total of 1,179 members of the two rebel groups surrendered on Monday after nearly six years of negotiations with the government. Among them, BRAU has 634 active members and UDLA has 545 active members. They surrendered their used AK47s and various sophisticated weapons. A thousand and more cadres of the two rebel groups surrendered today in the presence of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimari and Minister Piyush Hazarika on the grounds of Charles March Higher Secondary School of Katlichhara in Hailakandi district of Assam.
