Leaders from Assam, Delhi, and Karnataka apprise the plight of displaced people to Manipur governor

Imphal : A team of CPI-ML leaders from various states of India visited and interacted with the inmates taking shelter at different relief camps being opened in the aftermath of the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.The  CPI-ML leaders from Assam, Delhi, and Karnataka along with representatives of All India Progressive Women’s Association, All India Lawyers Association for Justice, and Dalit and Women’s Rights Activist Du. Saraswati called on the Governor of Manipur Miss Anusuiya Uikey.

The visiting leaders on Sunday apprised the governor of the prevailing situations of the relief camps and the hardships faced by the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) staying in different camps. The team informed the Governor that there has been ethnic segregation which has resulted in a shortage of food, medicines, etc.

They said they have visited different relief camps in Imphal West, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur districts where they witnessed the issue of sanitation, the issue of privacy for women, and overcrowding. There has been a shortage of doctors in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts and the issue of trauma care, counseling, meditation, and yoga sessions has been raised.

Governor heard their concerns and informed them that necessary arrangements have been made to provide adequate food and medicines to the IDPs in the camps. She said relief and rehabilitation measures are in place and as a temporary measure, pre-fabricated houses are being built and the IDPs will be shifted to the houses in both hills and valleys.

Supply of essential commodities has been intensified through NH-2 and the administration has been asked for providing adequate food and medicines to the IDPs. Taking note of the suggestions made by the team, Governor assured them that all necessary steps will be taken up for the welfare of the IDPs.
