Assam Rifles foils cross-border smuggling along Manipur Myanmar border

Imphal : A total of 100 bags of Areca Nuts (Supari) smuggled into India from Myanmar valued at Rs 96 Lalkhs in the international markets were recovered after two smugglers were apprehended along with two Shaktiman vehicles on Thursday, a defense wing press statement said.

Based on reliable input about the movement of contraband items along the Indo-Myanmar border, a team of Assam Rifles was launched to dominate the suspected area.

On thorough search, 100 bags of suspected Areca Nuts worth approximately Rs 96 Lakhs (as per international market rate) were found being illegally smuggled in two Shaktiman trucks in General Area ShangkaLokNala (Near BP-98) in the Kambjong district of Manipur through international border towards Indian side.

The nabbed smugglers along with impounded vehicles and seized items were handed over to the Forest Department, Kamjong for further legal proceedings, the statement added.
