Imphal : A total of 5 alleged drug users cum traffickers in a frisking and checking operation were arrested at the western side of Singjamei Bridge in Imphal West district at around 11 pm on Wednesday, police said on Thursday.

one .32 pistol loaded with one live round, 7 mobile phones, 2 sided bags containing Rs. 3.5 lakhs, 1 Creta vehicle black in color without registration number,  2 loose vehicle number plates, and 3 bottles of CODEDYL-T 100ml which contains Codeine Phosphate 10 mg each have been recovered from their possession, the police said.

Acting on a tip, a team of Manipur police commandos waylaid and overpowered them on the western side of the Singjamei bridge, about 3 km from Imphal at around 11.30 pm on Wednesday, the police said. The arrested persons along with the seized articles have been handed over to Singjamei Police Station and a case has been taken up, the police said.

The arrested persons are from the Thoubal district of Manipur. They are identified as Pangambam Chingkhomba Meitei, 28, of Yairipok Top Laimanai,  Yumkhaibam Moshin @ Md. Moshin, 24, of Lilong Awang Leikai Wangmayum Mehtab @Md. Mehtab, 30, of Lilong Bazaar, Maibam Shahrukh Khan, 28 of Thoubal Moijing, and Chingakham Sunder Singh, 31, of Yairipok Top, the police added.
