Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), recovered illegal timber on 16th September, at Sorde junction of Kamjong District.

On receipt of credible input from a reliable source regarding the move of illegal timber from Sorbung village to Phungyar, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post was established at Sorde junction at around 04:00 AM on 16 September 2020. At around 09:00 AM, a Shaktiman truck bearing registration number MN-01-7422 driven by one Happy Joy, a resident of Sorbung village was intercepted. On carrying-out thorough checking of the documents and loads on the vehicle, the truck was found carrying approximately 600 cubic-feet of Khangrawood logs of Myanmar origin without any valid permit for the same. The total value of the smuggled Timber is approximately ₹ 8 Lakhs. The truck was moving to Phungyar from Sorbung village. Shangpam was the co-driver of the vehicle, also a resident of Sorbung.

Phungyar Police Station was contacted and the timber along with the vehicle, driver, and co-driver has been handed over for further action at around 12:00 PM on 16th September
