They have demanded a five-day session to thoroughly discuss the prevailing crisis facing the state
Imphal : Opposition leader and former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has said that it was a dark day in the history of the Parliamentary democracy of India for concluding the crucial one-day 4th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 30 minutes on Tuesday.
Talking to the newsmen at the Congress Bhavan, Ibobi Singh said that the session was an “eyewash” and not in the public interest. In the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly, there are 5 Congress MLAs. They have demanded a five-day session to thoroughly discuss the prevailing crisis facing the state.
Under Rule 105 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the opposition Congress led by former chief minister Okram Ibibi presented a private member’s resolution but there was no discussion of that issue in the house.
The Congress has demanded the preservation of the territorial, administrative, and financial integrity of the state and urged the union government to ensure peace in Manipur after the restoration of peace and harmony in the state.
To put an end to violence and to ensure peace, tranquility, and harmony in the state, there is an urgent need to restore peace, tranquility, and harmony among different ethnicities and communities in the state. Okram Ibobi Singh expressed their dissatisfaction with the brevity of the session. They also argued that one day was insufficient to address the complexity of the prevailing situation in the ethnically strife-torn state.
