However emergency services including casualty services, ICUs, in-patients care and COVID-19 related services will remain unaffected on 11th December
Indian Medical Association Manipur State Branch is supporting the nationwide protest on 8th of December and the strike on 11th December, 2020 against the central government gazette notification allowing Ayurveda postgraduate students to perform surgery. Through a release, it stated that there will be a public demonstration on 8th December and cease work strike from 6am to 6pm of 11th December 2020 demanding revocation of the gazette notification. However emergency services including casualty services, ICUs, in-patients care and COVID-19 related services will remain unaffected on 11th December.
The recent notification by Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) allows postgraduate students of Ayurveda to perform 39 general surgery procedures and 19 surgeries of eye, ears, nose and throat which are otherwise performed by well-trained surgeons of modern medicine. This is a matter of grave concern for all as it involves patient safety and can have deleterious effects in the long run.
Indian Medical Association is not against Ayurveda but against unscientific mixing up of systems. Such a mixopathy will destroy the purity of the systems which belief differently and practice differently.
