Several points like providing first legal identity proofs like birth certificate, Aadhaar card, ration card, voter card, employment card, marriage registration and various benefits under the Social Welfare & Health Department were mentioned. It further helps in providing conclusive proof of age to help protect each child from any kind of violence, abuse and exploitation like cases of early marriage and child labour.

It also helps in securing the inheritance of property rights for women within the families. Helping to protect migrants, and refugee children who came from separation of families, trafficking and other illegal adoption cases were further mentioned as important benefits of Birth Registration.

The importance registering the name of Stillbirth and Death registration will provide main sources of accurate information on the mortality rate, and causes of death will help the Government in proper health planning. Things like death registration will surely serve as a legal record required for any kind of settlement of inheritance, insurance claims and benefit schemes under various departments.

Registration in Valley Districts for institutional Births & Deaths in public health facilities, one could register at the respective place of occurrence of the event. In case of Births & Deaths at home/ private hospitals /in transit for urban municipality areas, it has to be registered at the concerned registration units under MAHUD. For Births & Deaths at home/private hospitals/ in transit for rural Nagar Panchayat areas, it has to be registered at the concerned registration units under RD & PR.

Likewise for Births & Deaths at Hill District headquarters, one can register at the office of the Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital irrespective of the place of occurrence of the event. In case of Birth & Death beyond Hill District headquarters, registration can be done at the office of the MO in charge of the concerned CHC/PHC.

Registration for the first 21st days would be free of cost. Payment of Rs 2/- would be charged if one exceeds the said 21st   day and it should be done within the said period of 30 days at Registrar/Sub-registrar. Payment of Rs 5/- would be charged after exceeding 30 days within one year as Chief Medical Officer. Payment of Rs 10/- would be charged beyond one year, and the said payment is to be made at the Magistrate of the first class/ Executive magistrate.

For an efficient and resilient Government in Manipur, the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur has urged the citizen of the state to avail these facilities.
