Chief Minister N. Biren Singh laid the foundation stone for the State’s first ever water amusement park and inaugurated Likla Leima Leikon at Theng Ngu Chingjin at Awang Potshangbam Khunou in Imphal East district on Friday.

The amusement park would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 crores by Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd. while Likla Leima Leikon is managed by a local management committee with the assistance from the Directorate of Environment, Government of Manipur.

Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, N. Biren Singh said that it has been his long dream to have an amusement park in the State because there is no proper recreational place. The Chief Minister said that he once tried to develop a waterbody along with the park at Lamphelpat when he was the Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board in 2004. However, it could not be materialized due to different reasons, he added.

He is now happy that foundation stone for a water amusement park has been laid, the Chief Minister said and added that it is being targeted to complete it before the end of 2021. Stating that a large number of people would visit the park every day after its completion, the Chief Minister said that people of the area would be therefore benefitted in different ways. 

On the other hand, N. Biren Singh said, around 460 acres of land had also been earmarked at Lamphelpat to develop a water body. This would definitely help retain the natural state of Lamphelpat, he added.

Among others, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Awangbow Newmai, Tourism Minister O. Lukhoi, Social Welfare Minister Okram Henry were also seated on the dais as dignitaries among others.
