Manipur Government to send a delegate for fact-finding over Wednesday’s clash at Tripura University

Following the clash which erupted between two students groups in Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India, ICFAI, university in Tripura on Tuesday morning, a Manipur delegate, to be led by Manipur’s education director will be going to the University for a fact-find trip and assess the safety concerns of the students from the state.

Incidentally, local students from Tripura on one side clashed with all of the north eastern students on the other over some conflicting issues causing pandemonium in the university rising security concerns for the students from outside Tripura.

Convener, Joint Students’ Coordinating Committee, who is  also the president of All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Peter Laishram alleged that the incident was not ragging as claimed by some local students  but it was a conflict between 3rd and 4th semester students of the university. The student leader also claimed that students from other states studying in the university are suffering fear psychosis and are not in a position to attend their classes because of clash.

General secretary of North East Students Organisation, NESO, Sinam Prakash stated that, on 27 August, local Bengalis stormed into the university and destroy windows of the hostels and vehicles inside the campus. Informing that the same incident has already happened in 2013 leading to injuries of around 17students from Manipur, he said that the authorities of the university at that time assured members of NESO, police and representatives of Manipur that the incident would not happen again.
