Imphal : Amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur, Governor Anusuiya Uikey met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital on June 16 to discuss the prevailing security scenario in the state.

The high-level meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, comes as the Centre seeks to take stock of the incidents that have rocked Manipur over the past year.

While the specifics of the discussion were not immediately disclosed, sources suggest that the meeting aimed to assess the situation on the ground and formulate strategies to restore peace and stability in the region.

In a separate meeting chaired by Amit Shah, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir was reviewed. Attended by top officials, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and the Chiefs of Defence Staff, the meeting emphasised replicating the successes achieved through the Area Domination Plan and Zero Terror Plan in the Jammu division.

Shah asserted the government’s commitment to cracking down on terrorists through innovative means, directing security agencies to work in a mission mode and ensure a coordinated response.

The Home Minister highlighted that the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is in its decisive phase, citing recent incidents as indicators of terrorism being forced to shrink to a mere proxy war. He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey called on the President of India Droupadi Murmu at Rastrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Sunday and requested the President to take immediate action for the resettlement of the internally displaced peoples (IDPs) to their respective places.

This was stated in a communique issued by the Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Sunday.  Informing about the hardships faced by the IDPs in various relief camps in the state, the Governor requested the President to provide financial assistance for the displaced people in the state.

The governor also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Rastrapati Bhawan and requested for providing financial assistance to the state of Manipur.The Governor also apprised the President about the recent flood that wreaked havoc in Manipur and the relief and rescue works taken up by the state and Central agencies.

She also congratulated the President for the smooth and successful conduct of the swearing-in ceremony of the new government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre. Moreover, the Governor invited the President to attend the Convocation Ceremony of Manipur University.

The President assured to extend all possible assistance to the state, the communique added. It may be noted that over 60, 000 individuals are taking shelter in different relief camps across the state owing to the ongoing communal violence that erupted on May 3, 2023.
