Imphal : A joint team comprising columns from Assam Rifles, Indian Army, and Manipur Police, nabbed a leader of the NSCN (IM) in an operation in the general area of Sawombung about 11 km from Imphal on Wednesday, a defense wing press statement said.

Based on specific intelligence, the combined team commenced discreet monitoring and tracked the movement of the cadre, the statement said.

During checking and frisking at a checkpoint on NH 202 near Sawombung under the Imphal East district, the team detained a suspected person who was later identified as SS Captain Shiningson Chilhang, 45, S/O MrMathotmi Chilhang of Leikoiching Village, Senapati district of Manipur, an active cadre of NSCN (IM).

The team also seized one 9mm Carbine with five live rounds. The apprehended person along with the seized weapon has been handed over to Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East District for necessary legal action.
