Effigies of AR burnt at Moirang
Imphal : Amid Meira Paibs burning the effigies of the Assam Rifles, the opposition Congress in Manipur has demanded judicial inquiry leading to the killings and injuries in the Pallel incident in Manipur. President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, K Meghachandra talking to the newsmen at the Congress Bhavan, Imphal on Sunday charged the ruling BJP-led government headed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh with “weak governance” with regard to the protection of civilians.
K Mechandra, who is a sitting Congress MLA elected from Wangkhem Assembly constituency asked the state government what steps have been taken against those Assam Rifles personnel who had killed 2 civilians and caused injuries to over 80 persons mostly Meira Paibis at Pallel in Kakching district on September 8. The Congress has also demanded a judicial into the killings and injuries in the Pallel incident at the earliest.
Stated that the Unified Command which is mainly responsible for maintaining peace and normalcy in this strife-torn state must take an explanation call for the errant personnel responsible for atrocities on the civilians at the earliest, an FIR would be booked against the Assam Rifles for its atrocities against the innocents.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night Meira Paibis of 29 localities of the Moirang assembly segment gathered at Moirang Lamkhai where they burnt effigies of Assam Rifles. The protest organized by Moirang Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) denounced the Pallel incident.
