Manipur Police arrest 2 women for launching fast unto death

Imphal : Manipur police on Thursday arrested two female active members of a powerful women’s organization for launching a fast death stir at the hall of the Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai Thongkhong, Imphal East District. Soon after the first batch of the women agitators was picked up by the police, the second phase of agitation has been started on Thursday. 

A 57-year-old woman B. Malaya and a 53-year-old S. Thoibi, both from Singjamei Torban Kshtri Leikai in Imphal east district carried out the second phase fast unto death agitation soon after the first phase strikers namely  N Gangaleima, and Chongtham Pramo Leima, were arrested by the police on Thursday morning, the police said.

The agitation is being launched under the aegis of the Thawai Mirel Women Wing, a newly formed powerful organization of the state. The new outfit is demanding among others unification of all Civil Social Organisations in the state to guide the people under a common agenda and the convening of a special assembly session to pass a resolution for saving Manipur.
