Manipur police arrest a man who shot a farmer

Total 8 persons including a farmer got injuries and two persons one Meitei and another Kuki lost their lives.

Imphal : Manipur police arrested an individual who is suspected of having been involved in the shooting and injuring of a farmer at Naransena canal, under the Bishnupur. One 303 rifle has been recovered from his possession. This was stated by the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh while speaking as chief guest at the state-level celebration of Meri Maati Mera Desh held on Thursday at the Palace Auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society, Imphal.

Police arrested the man dressed in security attires and one 303 rifle has also been recovered from his possession during combing operations launched by the combined security forces and police in the aftermath of the incident, the Chief Minister said.

Though the CM did not elaborate on the matter relating to the arrested person, it is worth mentioning that one farmer namely Salam Jotin, 39, suffered bullet injuries on his shoulder when he was working at his paddy field at Naransena Paddy cannel in Bishnupur district on Tuesday.

Notably, in the ongoing intermittent gunfights that started at 6 a.m. on Tuesday in this area, a total of 8 persons including a farmer got injuries and two persons one Meitei and another Kuki lost their lives. The injured persons are given treatments at the Raj Medicity, Imphal, and Shija Hospital, Imphal.
