Manipur | Police Seize Arms, Ammunition In Jiribam

Jiribam District Police on Friday seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including two pistols from a car (Mahindra Scorpio) while conducted frisking and checking of various plying vehicles at Leingangpokpi village along NH-37, an official said.

The consignment which included two pistols and 42 nos.of live round ammunition, was seized based on a specific input, an official added.

The Jiribam District Police reported,  the dedicated team of Jiribam Anti, Drug Cell unit led by ASI A. Krishna Sharma and his team under the supervision of H. Basulal Singh (MPS), Addl SP (L/O), Jiribam laid an ambush and conducted frisking and checking of various plying vehicles at Leingangpokpi Village along NH 37 near Jiribam Driver Union Office. While doing so, on the same day at about 8:30 pm, one Mahindra Scorpio car (Black in colour) bearing Registration no. MN06LB-0972 heading towards Jiribam from Imphal side was stopped for checking.

On checking of the said vehicle, one driver and another occupant were found inside the vehicle. On verification, they identified themselves as  Md. Khomei (30) years S/o Md. Iboyai of Hangool Ngakhapat, PO-Kakching, PS-Hiyanglam, District-Kakching, Manipur and  Md. Samsur @ Barr (28) yrs S/o (L) Md. Tamijur of Nongpok Ingkhol-A, PS- Porompat-PS, Imphal East District, Manipur.

On thorough checking of the said vehicle, one leather bag (black in colour) with multiple pockets was found concealed just beneath the right side of the rear seat of the vehicle.

On opening of the bag, the  arms and ammunition  were found without valid licence/ documents consists of

One Pistol marked as TANFOGLIO, Made in Italy (CAL 9 X19) with one Empty Magazine, one Pistol (m-20) bearing body No. 32064453 with one Empty Magazine, 32 (Thirty Two) nos. of 9 mm live round ammunition (Marked as KF 17  9mm 2Z) and 42 (Forty Two) nos. of 7.62 X 25 live round ammunition (Marked as S & B 5   7.62 X 25).

The report of police stated that on questioning, they disclosed that the said arms & ammunition were smuggled from Imphal area and the same is to be delivered at Cachar, Assam. Accordingly, the above noted persons are arrested and seized the above mentioned arms & ammunitions and the involved vehicle on the same day at around 8:50 pm and 8:55 pm respectively.

In this regard, a case under the Arms Act has been registered for investigation.
