Imphal: In a strong show of solidarity, the transgender community in Imphal gathered on Wednesday and condemned the ethnic clashes that have plagued the region. Calling themselves the native Indigenous Transgender people of Manipur, community representatives submitted a memorandum to the Governor, urging immediate attention and action to address the communal crisis and protect the civilians of the state.
The memorandum, highlighted the need for intervention, outlined several key demands put forth by the transgender community. They have demanded decisive actions against the unlawful armed actors who have been perpetuating violence, including shooting incidents, arson attacks, and threats against civilians.
They stressed on the importance of controlling and holding accountable the Kuki Militants who have been violating the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
The transgender community stressed the necessity of prioritizing relief and rehabilitation efforts for the internally displaced persons affected by the clashes. It emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening the composite and multi-ethnic nature of Manipur while considering any proposed administrative structures as potential solutions.
In their appeal to the Central Government, the transgender community urged that all security forces, including the Assam Rifles, carry out their duties in an impartial and fair manner, refraining from any activities that could fuel communal conflicts.
