In observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2024, Manipur University (MU) held a program on Thursday at the Court Hall to promote the theme “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity.” The event gathered faculty, students, and community members, all united in advocating for transparency and accountability as foundations for national growth.

Resource person Dr. Y. Premananda, Head of MU’s Law Department, addressed the gathering, underscoring the significance of integrity in public life. He discussed the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the role of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in eliminating corruption with the support of active citizen participation. “Trust is essential to social cohesion and unity,” Dr. Premananda stated, emphasizing the adverse impacts of corruption on society and urging everyone to foster an ethical culture both publicly and privately.

Prof. N. Lokendra, Vice-Chancellor of MU, served as the Chief Guest, echoing these sentiments. He emphasized the importance of integrity and ethics in governance and called on students and faculty to lead by example. “A transparent and accountable governance system is crucial for the nation’s prosperity,” Prof. Lokendra added.

This year’s Vigilance Awareness Week, observed from October 28 to November 2, promotes vigilance and ethics in public administration, with the aim of building a corruption-free society. MU officials and speakers urged attendees to uphold these values daily, reinforcing the CVC’s mission of creating a fair and transparent governance framework.
