The Manipur University Students’ Union stated that the adjacent consequences could be far more severe than expected
In pursuance of the letter of MIZO ZIRLAI PAWL,(MZP), the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) reacted to the attempt to spoil the academic career of one Meitei student, Teresa Ningthoujam whereas the MZP has demanded the termination of her Ph.D programme at Mizoram University accusing her being involved in the collection of funds for the procurement of bullets purportedly intended for harming Kuki people in Manipur.
In a media statement released, MUSU retorted that numerous reports and evidence of students enrolled under different programmes in Manipur University belonging to the Kuki community being involved directly in instances ranging from spreading false rumours of Meitei people raping Kuki women inside the University campus, students belonging to the said community being indulged in gunfights possessing sophisticated weapons, collecting funds from the students of the University to assist in the armed militancy up to publishing writings based on false propaganda and made up history.
Against the above-mentioned facts and figures, the Manipur University Students’ Union has not taken any harsh steps to attempt to spoil the academic and personal careers of those individuals. The very still and calmness which has been maintained by MUSU to date is purposedly imperative to uphold the values of peace, respect for human life and academic excellence of Manipur University stands for, stated the statement.
Manipur University Students’ Union would like to draw the attention of all stakeholders especially those who are in academic pursuits including Mizo Zirlai Pawl and the authority of Mizoram University to refrain from any such irrational acts of targetting academic institutions and individuals and such an act is intolerable as places like academic institutions should not be touched, it asserted.
Following the demand of MZP if the Mizoram University Authority successively happens to terminate the Ph.D. programme of Teresa Ningthoujam from Mizoram University, the Manipur University Students’ Union stated that the adjacent consequences could be far more severe than expected.
