A protest demanding the immediate conduct of the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) Election was staged in front of the Manipur University Vice Chancellor’s office in Imphal.

Several students representing different faculties and departments of the educational institutes gathered inside the MU campus on Monday and stormed the office of the VC Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh.

The placards they are holding read, “Respect Students‘ Rights”, “We demand MUSU elections”, “No MUSU, no MU”, and “Maintain the sanctity of MU.”

On the sideline of the protest, a student leader told the newsmen that they are demanding the immediate conduct of the MUSU Election for the 2023-24 academic year.

Expressing frustration over the delayed election process, the student leader said that failure to hold the elections on the scheduled period has hampered the representation and the addressing of campus issues.

The agitating students threatened that if the MUSU election continues to be delayed, more intense protests will be launched.
