Imphal : A teenage girl sustained injuries when she was hit by a bullet at Koutruk village under the Sekmai police station in Imphal West district on Friday, the police said. Ninthoujam Jina, 14, a class IX standard student was hit by a bullet while studying at her home, according to an official report filed by her father N Bokun.

N Jina, a resident of Koutruk Mayai Leikai, under the Kangpokpi police station, was hit by a bullet in her left leg. She suffered bullet injuries when armed miscreants opened indiscriminate firing all of a sudden, the official sources said. The attack was made from the hilltop of Koutruk Chingyang in the inter-districts of Imphal West and Kangpokpi at around 11 a.m. on Friday.

She was rushed to the Raj Medicity, Imphal for medical treatments, the sources said. Following the report of the incident, the personnel of the 6th Manipur Rifles rushed to the spot and engaged in a sporadic gunfight. However, there is no report of casualty on either side at the time of filing the report.

Over 160 persons including women and children lost their lives in the ongoing ethnic violence that broke out between the Meiteis and Kukis on May 3. Over 60, 000 people are displaced by the ongoing violence.
