MSCW registers 59 cases against women in Manipur
Imphal ; Ulka Salam chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has said that 5 cases related to the sexual crime against women in Manipur has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for proper investigation and justice at the earliest.
She said that a total of 59 cases related to the crime against the weaker section of the society in the state were registered with the MSWC/ Ulka Salam was speaking as chief guest at the 17th foundation day celebration of the MSCW held at Imphal on Friday. Of these cases, 36 cases were disposed of, 4 cases were kept in abeyance and 19 cases still undergoing.
Altogether, 39 cases belong to the General category, 10 for Manipuri Muslims, 8 for Scheduled Tribes, and 2 for Scheduled caste. The Commission has taken up 27 cases in Imphal West district, 15 in Imphal East, 5 Thobual, 4 Kakching, 2 Kangpokpi, and 1 each from Churachandpur, Chandel and Jiribam districts. The chairpersons further said a draft gender policy of the MSCW would be submitted to the state government by next month.
