Kohima: A major landslide near Dzüdza Bridge on National Highway-29, between Kohima and Dimapur in Nagaland, has prompted administration to order the evacuation of nearby residents. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, has completely blocked the highway and is expected to disrupt traffic for weeks.

Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant, along with officials from NHIDCL, Kohima Police, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and M/S Brand Eagles, inspected the site on Friday and deemed the situation critical.

The DC issued an order directing residents of houses and shops in the landslide-affected area to vacate immediately due to the high risk of further collapse. “The continuing downhill movement of debris and slurry poses a serious threat to life and property. A concerted action plan is underway to manage the situation,” the order stated.

Despite the road closure, the DC assured the public that there is no shortage of essential commodities in Kohima.

To mitigate travel disruptions, the DC has advised commuters to use alternative routes. Those traveling from Kohima to Dimapur can take either the Jotsoma-Khonoma-Mezoma-Sechüma-Sechü Zubza route or the Dzüdza Bridge-Mezo Basa-Sechüma-Sechü Zubza route.

For travel from Dimapur to Kohima, the Peducha Bridge-Tsiesema (10 Mile Road) is recommended.The public is urged to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with traffic management efforts.
