Ma’Ama became the first film from Meghalaya and the only Indian film to be officially selected in the International competition section of Jio MAMI 2018
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma greeted Dominic Megam Sangma for winning a national award for Garo movie “Ma’ama”. In her tweet Conrad Sangma stated, “Congratulations Dominic Sangma for winning National Award for the Garo Movie – Ma’ama. You are an inspiration for the youth of our State and the region. Wishing you the very best for your future ventures. All the best!!”
‘Ma’ama’ won a National Award during the 66th National Film Award in New Delhi on August 9. It became the first Garo film to win the award.
Ma’Ama has a Chinese co-producer, and is the only Indian title to be selected for the international competition section at the Mumbai Film Festival on 25 October – 1 November, 2018. Beside this Ma’Ama became the first film from Meghalaya and the only Indian film to be officially selected in the International competition section of Jio MAMI 2018.
This Garo film is Sangma’s debut Feature Film and is produced by Dominic and Xu Jiangshang from China. It revolves around the life of an aged man named Philip (85) who lives everyday for 30 years in hope that one day he will be reunited with his wife in afterlife. This film depicts a man and his quest to do whatever it takes to retain the fading memories of his wife’s face from his mind. His quest demands him to face the things that he had avoided for thirty years and at this stage it’s no more a choice but the only gate to open and walk through it.
