The state of Meghalaya and the villagers of Mukroh will file their respective replies on or before June 6
Shillong: On November 22, 2022 firing took place at Mukroh and it once brought back the spotlight of Assam—Meghalaya border dispute to the fore.
In that incident six persons died—5 from Meghalaya and one guard from Assam. This issue is extremely sensitive and on Thursday the judicial inquiry commission set up by the government of Meghalaya asked Assam to submit an ‘application’ in this regard.
The inquiry commission is being headed by retired chief justice T Vaiphei. The commission clearly asked the Assam government to submit the application by May ‘without fail.’At the same time the commission also asked the Assam government to attach all the relevant documents with its application.
Before making the decision, the Commission of Inquiry on Thursday heard counsels from Meghalaya, Assam and the border area of Mukroh. The counsels on behalf of Meghalaya were Aduity Pandey and Yoothica Pallavi. The counsel representing Assam was D Gogoi while the villagers of Mukroh were represented by T L Jyrwa and E Bareh.
According to the Commission’s order, the state of Meghalaya and the villagers of Mukroh will file their respective replies on or before June 6. The next sitting is scheduled on June 8.
