The Chief Minister informed the house that discussions with the Government of Assam and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council have begun to resolve the boundary dispute
Diphu : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday while replying to a question raised by UDP MLA Nujorki Sungoh uttered apprehension regarding the supposed formation of a new militant group called the United People’s Front of Karbi Longri in West Karbi Anglong autonomous district of Assam, in the Meghalaya state assembly.
The same MLA in earlier occasion had alleged that the purpose of the new militant group was to create terror among the Khasi-Pnar people living in the disputed Block I along the border between West Jaintia Hills and West Karbi Anglong purposely in the Elaka Labang-Nongphyllut-Pangam Raliang area.
The Chief Minister however said that they have not received any official reports of the outfit’s formation, nor any specific intelligence or complaints regarding extortion notes from the group beside newspaper clippings. He informed the house that the Meghalaya government has increased security along the inter-state border following this.
