Members submit their report on ILP for Sikkim

Gangtok: Pulling the curtains down on the ongoing debate over Inner Line Permit (ILP) issue for Sikkim the committee set up by the Prem Singh Tamang led state government finally submitted its report to the chief secretary Dr V B Pathak.
Former chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling mentioned this issue in his last speech at the Assembly session a few days back.

The ILP committee was headed by Shanta Pradhan. This committee was set up on February 4, 2023. The Director General of Police (DGP) A K Singh was also present at the time of submission of the report.

It needs to be mentioned here that the submission of the report marks a significant milestone in the ongoing discussions and deliberations surrounding the implementation of the ILP system in Sikkim.

The committee members, including Tshewang Gyachho, Secretary of the Health Department and Member Secretary of the ILP, Smt. Tashi Cho Cho, Secretary of the Home Department, and S.D. Tshering, retired Secretary, were also present during the submission.Their primary objectives were to thoroughly study and assess the feasibility of introducing the Inner Line Permit system in Sikkim.

The ILP is a document that grants restricted access to certain designated areas within a state or region, primarily aimed at regulating the entry of outsiders and preserving the local cultural identity and resources.
