Mid Day Meal Workers’ Federation demands Minimum Wages Social Security and Pension

Mid Day Meal Workers’ Federation of India organises March to Parliament at Jantar Mantar on 3 December demanding Regularisation, Minimum Wages of Rs. 26000 per month and for 12 months, Social Security and Pension for mid-day meal workers.

At the call of Mid Day Meal Workers’ Federation of India (MDMWFI) affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), more than thousands of mid-day meal workers from 20 states, including Manipur, assembled at Jantar Mantar Yesterday, 3rd December 2024, demanding Regularization, Minimum Wages @Rs 26000 per month, Social Security and Pension for MDM workers

The March to Parliament was inaugurated by Tapan Sen, General Secretary, CITU. He congratulated the Mid Day Meal (MDM) workers for their magnificent struggles at the state level. He called upon them to intensify the struggles at the national level and strengthen the joint struggles to change the anti-national policies of this government of corporate communal nexus. He further said that working classes were divided by the NDA government led by the BJP in the name of communities and ethnicity as done in Manipur and Sambhal. Peace in these areas should be restored. Restoration of peace and normalcy is the duty of the double-engine governments. We should fight against the divide.

Malini Mesta, General Secretary of the Federation, explained the issues and charter of demands and the struggles and achievements of the federation till now.

The rally was addressed by leaders of fraternal organisations including Vijoo Krishnan (AIKS), B Venkat (AIAWU), and Asha Sharma (AIDWA), who extended solidarity and support to their struggles. Surekha (AWFFI) while expressing solidarity with the MDM workers’ struggles called upon for strengthening the scheme workers movement and unity throughout the country up to the grassroots level.

CITU National Secretary and General Secretary of AIFAWH A R Sindhu also addressed the gathering.

The Programme was presided over by Krishna Roy Chatterjee and Himi Thakur, President and Treasurer of the Federation respectively.

Mobilization from all states has shown anger against the Modi government. At the beginning of the programme, cultural activities and songs made during the struggles in various states were presented which enthused the participants.

Jai Bhagwan, Vice President, MDMWFI gave the concluding address and announced the programmes of action. There will be Militant actions including strikes both independently and jointly, if there is no increase in wages in the next budget.

The rally gave a call to strengthen the worker-peasant joint movement by taking the issues to the people and intensifying the struggle in states.
