SIVSAGAR : Sivsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has criticised Minister Ashok Singhal, saying that he does not love Assam and is only here for business.

Speaking to the media, Gogoi expressed concerns about Singhal’s role as the Guwahati Development Department (GDD) minister, claiming that the issue of urban flooding will persist under his leadership.

Gogoi argued that Singhal, being a businessman and builder, is not suitable for the ministerial position.

“If the state government keep Ashok Singhal as the Guwahati Development Department (GDD), the issue of urban flood will never come to an end. I think Ashok Singhal who is a businessman should be removed as the GDD minister.

He himself is a builder and when a builder is made a minister you can see what is the outcome…He (Singhal) has come to Assam only to do business not because he loves Assam.

He also criticised State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita for blaming citizens for the flash floods. Gogoi stated that the BJP is responsible for Guwahati’s urban flooding and has failed to deliver on its promises to resolve the issue.

Gogoi said, “Only BJP is to be blamed for Guwahati’s urban flood and even they promised that they will resolve the issue of flash flood once in power, however, they have failed to deliver on it and building unnecessary over bridges which is only to grab the commission.”

He further suggested that the state government should have initiated a comprehensive drainage project to address the problem.
