Vigilance committees will be constituted in the inter-state and inter-district villages

Diphu: In the continuing low intensity violence reprobate from across South Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, miscreants set ablaze houses at Ningkreng village of West Karbi Anglong District yesterday evening.

The jittered Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority conveyed a multiparty meeting yesterday at Arboretum Cum Craft centre, of Diphu town to resolve the issue.

The meeting was headed by Tuliram Ronghang Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council; the other dignitaries who were present were Member of Lok Sabha from Diphu constituency Horeng Sing Bey, MLAs, and Executive Members of the council, Members of Autonomous Council, representatives of students and social organizations and leaders of various political parties.

Leftist leader and previous MP of Diphu citizenry Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, APHLC president JI Kathar, MLA of Diphu Bidya Sing Engleng, MLA of Howraghat Dorsing Ronghang were also present in the meeting.

The speakers in the meeting mostly stressed on the position that the territorial integrity of the autonomous region would be guarded and the authority will abide by Gazette Notification of 1951. Vigilance committees will be constituted in the inter-state and inter-district villages.

Tuliram Ronghang later told the media that attacks on Karbi settlements have taken place perpetuated by miscreants of Meghalaya at Langhemphi locality of West Karbi Anglong district which has been condemned by the house. He mentioned that, there is no disparity in the stand among the members on the question of territorial veracity of the two hills districts, i.e. Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

Ronghang said that the present demarcated boundary, together with accepted boundary, would be protected and they will abide by the Gazette Notification of 1951 and notification of Survey of India made when Meghalaya achieved its statehood.

The meeting also agreed to resolve the issue through dialogue and take adequate steps for providing security in the border part by the vigilance committees; he specified that local villagers and all other stakeholders will be included in the committees which will be constituted in all inter-state border villages across the district.
