My Manipur needs more support: Governor Manipur

Imphal: Governor of Manipur AnusuiyaUikey while gracing a function held at the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) appealed to IBSD and Central Agriculture University to work together to work for Manipur so that our people can become self-sufficient and stay in peace. She was the Chief Guest in a program held at IBSD with the theme ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Developing Women Entrepreneurship.

IBSD for the last many months has undertaken skill development entrepreneurship for women groups in Imphal and today the institute distributed twenty machines along with ingredients for candle and agarbatti making to more than a hundred such women trainees so that they can start their activities.

The Director of IBSD gave a brief outline of various research and outreach activities undertaken by the institute and said that it is satisfaction today to see the trained women folks taking the machines through the hands of the Governor of Manipur and wished them a successful life ahead. 

Prof. Mukherjee highlighted that IBSD is involved in a number of outreach activities to ensure that the fruits of its research reach the common people of this region. IBSD has established a BioNEST incubator for the development of women bioentrepreneurs through Orchid floriculture and benefited more than 100 women in Meghalaya. IBSD is organising many outreach activities for farmers, traditional healers, and women entrepreneurs of NER to promote “Bioeconomy from Bioresources”, programmes for promoting local bioresources among school/ college students of NER.

In this context, IBSD has organized the International Bioresource Conclave to showcase the different bioresources, and local traditional medicines of NER, participated in the G20 event on Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) for “Circular Bio-economy” to highlight the various initiatives of the institute for the promotion of bioresources and development of Bioeconomy of NER.

Governor Uikey also informed the gathering that she has taken up the present crisis with the Central Government including the President, Union Home Minister and Finance Minister during the last visit. She echoed that she could feel the pain of the people who are suffering in Manipur and that she believes that soon a solution to settle the people should be done. 

The Governor appreciated the initiative undertaken by IBSD and said that it is very important for her to be part of it and appealed to the institute and universities to undertake more such programmes to make people earn a sustainable livelihood.

Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Central Agriculture University stressed the importance of women’s empowerment and appreciated the step undertaken by IBSD is commendable. He also stated that there are various possibilities for collaboration between IBSD and CAU and  can work together to explore local bioresources of the region 

Dr. Mishra highlighted various opportunities to explore the bioresources of NER. He appreciated the efforts of IBSD for all the initiatives taken for the development of bioeconomy from bioresources. 

HungyoWorshang, Secretary of Science and Technology, Government of Manipur stressed the role of women folks in peacemaking. He said that all are suffering in Manipur today and it is the women folks only who can bring peace in the society.

He highlighted various initiatives of Govt. of Manipur where organizations like IBSD and CAU can contribute for the development of bioeconomy.

The women trainees while accepting the machinery and ingredients had showered their gratitude to IBSD and have shown interest in participating in future training and skill programs.

They also interacted with Governor Anusuiya Uikey after the program and she gave a patient hearing to their difficulties faced as well as wished them on their future endeavours.
