Dimapur Police in Nagaland had swung into action and traced the originators of fake news – fleeing of 20 stranded people kept at quarantine center at Agri Expo Dimapur which went viral with the message being spread through WhatsApp. According to the police source, it was learnt that many people have forwarded the said fake news through various social media platforms without verifying its authenticity. The said fake news was originated through text message by one Amy Merry ( 40 years) daughter of Thungbemo Merry of Okotso village and presently residing at Dimapur, police source informed.
During the course of investigation by police, it was learnt that she has composed the text message and sent the same to her friends which eventually went viral. The lady was summoned to Diphupar Police station where she admitted her guilt. Other than the lady, 4 other persons involved were also summoned to the Police station namely Iloto Achumi (19 years) son of Ahoto Achumi, Rachel Swu (41 years) daughter of Luhoi , Manjeet Meitie (40 years) son of Shitoljeet Meitie, Joel Merry daughter of Thungbemo Merry. Necessary legal action has been initiated against all involved under relevant provisions of law, police sources said.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Police has appealed to all individuals to avoid using any form of media for disseminating information pertaining to COVID-19, without ascertaining the facts.
