In view of publication of NRC in adjoining Assam where millions of people did not make it to the final list, Government of Nagaland is taking precautionary measures in order to check sudden influx in the state.

The Nagaland Home Department, had issued the following advisory as a preventive measure against possible influx of illegal immigrants in the State:

1.      All entry points/check gates manned by the Police should be suitably strengthened to prevent any possible influx of illegal immigrants and mobile patrolling in vulnerable locations should be activated in the respective jurisdictions.

2.      Non-locals entering the State should not be allowed without the valid pass issued by the District Administration and any unusual influx of outsiders without valid pass should be promptly brought to the knowledge of the District Administration.

3.      All the Village/Town/Municipal Authorities are to take measures to strictly monitor the influx of people from outside the state in violation of the existing rules/norms.

4.      The antecedents of any new incoming tenants should be properly checked and verified by the District Administration and Police.

5.      The District Administration and Police are to strictly monitor the regulation of ILP, especially along the Border Areas.

It is to be noted that Nagaland has borders with Assam and entry to the Dimapur town doesn’t require ILP as Dimapur has the only railway station of Nagaland that caters to the state of Manipur and Nagaland.

It is feared that influx of illegal immigrant thus can take place through this route and many may get mingled in the interior places of Nagaland.

The writing on the wall is clear for the various Governments of North Eastern states and only in coming days it would be clear how the menace of population influx can be checked as this issue is the sparking points of unrest many a time, for various societies of the region.
