Anglo Lotha Dictionary was released today at Wokha by Advisor IT, S & Tech and N&RE, Mmhonlumo Kikon during the monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting held todayat Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Wokha.

Mmhonlumo Kikon thanked the Department of Art & Culture and Lotha Academy for coming together in publishing the Anglo-Lotha Dictionary which is quite significant for the Lotha community. Kikon said that this initiation is very significant for the Naga people as this Book will remain and will be used properly.

Advisor also thanked Yanbeni Yanthan and Dr.Imlienla Imchen, Asstt. Professor Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies, Nagaland University who have taken the initiative as it is not easy to bring out a Dictionary with a phonetic symbol properly ascribed. He added that in this days and age there is a realization that there should be a book or dictionary in our own language to know about the cultural knowledge of our own.

Director of Art & Culture, Adela Moa while speaking at the function said that in 2018, the Planning Department has asked the Art & Culture department to take up some programme of the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs Government of India (GOI) to bring out Dictionary of different Naga Language in one such programme, as language is the basic foundation on which societies are build and knowledge system sustained as it is not only essential for communication but it is the storehouse of a communities history legacy and also the development of community literature, having a database in regional language and enable people as well as interested scholars to learn the language.

Against this backdrop, the Directorate of Art & Culture along with Yanbeni Yanthan and Dr. Imlienla Imchen both collaborated to document the regional language of the Nagas, starting out first with the Lotha language and this dictionary is the result of scholars, experts and the department. The book is the first Naga regional dictionary to use the International Phonetic Alphabet which she believed will be beneficial for the Lotha language speakers as well as students and scholars to use the phonetic transcription for pronunciation.
