Dimapur : The Nagaland government has tightened security across the state amid political instability in Bangladesh.

An official statement said Nagaland home commissioner Vyasan R and commissioner KS Anden Konyak on Friday held a video conference with the DCs of the state to discuss the potential impact of the ongoing political instability in the neighbouring country on Nagaland, particularly concerning the risk of illegal immigration.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Vyasan underlined the importance of preparedness in the face of potential cross-border issues.

“We must not be caught off guard by the situation in Bangladesh,” he said. The home commissioner said the district administrations have already implemented measures to address these concerns.

He added that the district security coordination committees have been activated to ensure that each district is on high alert.

The discussions with the DCs also focused on tightening the Inner Line Permit (ILP) checks, activating village councils to monitor and report any unusual movements and reinforcing communication channels.

Vyasan said it was decided to establish cross-border coordination with Assam for early warnings. He said some districts have already initiated surprise checks, and vulnerable points along the border are being thoroughly monitored.

“The district administrations are our first responders, our antennas, and communication channels are being activated,” Vyasan added.
