National Health Mission, Manipur to launch 10-day Intensified Diarrhea Campaign Fortnight

Imphal: Intensified Diarrhea Campaign Fortnight (IDCF), the on-going nationwide campaign is all set to commence in Manipur from May 28 to June 8. The National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur is organized campaign in collaboration with the Health and Social Welfare Department and Education Department, Manipur.

NHM, Manipur, State Mission Director, Dr. S. Manikanta said that the main objective of the campaign is to prevent deaths due to dehydration from diarrhea in children aged 5 years and below since deaths due to diarrhea is preventable. He further said that the state mission’s plan is to bring down diarrhea related death rate to zero mortality rate.

Since children’s are more prone to diarrhea during May and June, we’re kicking off the Intensified Diarrhea Campaign Fortnight.

 The Director informed that a state level Steering Committees has been constituted for the purpose, headed by the State Mission Director and State Nodal Officer. 

“In the district level, the Chief Medical Officer, District Nodal Officer and the Block-level officer would be running the intensified campaign. ORS and Zinc supplements will be made available in all health institutions including district hospitals.  For a successful campaign NHM is partnering with the Anganwadi centres in carrying out door-to door campaigns in households where there are children below 5 years of age,” the director said.

Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight (IDCF) consists of a set of activities to be implemented in an intensified manner for prevention and control of deaths due to dehydration from diarrhea across all States and Union Territories.

These activities include- intensification of advocacy & awareness generation activities for diarrhea management, strengthening service provision for diarrhea case management, establishment of ORS-Zinc corners, propositioning of ORS by ASHA in households with under-five children and awareness generation activities for hygiene and sanitation. 

The goal of IDCF is to attain zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhea and it also focus on delivery of simple proven interventions that have large impact towards control of childhood diarrheal morbidity and mortality.


Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in children under five years old. It is responsible for the death of over 5,25,000 children every year.
