Aadi Mahotsav, the National Tribal festival, will start from tomorrow,17th August at Polo Ground in Leh-Ladakh. The nine-day festival will be inaugurated by the Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik.
The tribes constitute over 8% of the country’s population. This is a very significant number. In real terms, it corresponds to over 10 crore Indians. The national object of inclusive development (sab ka Vikas) includes the development of tribes as an important component.
The theme of the festival is a celebration of the spirit of Tribal Craft, Culture and Commerce.
Around 160 Tribal artisans from more than 20 states across the country will actively participate and showcase their masterpieces in this event.
The product range will comprise of tribal textiles from Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal and tribal jewellery from Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and North East as well as tribal paintings from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
The event will have reputed local cultural troupes presenting Ladakhi folk dances. It is being jointly organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India.
