A nexus of brokers and medical personnel has been uncovered at the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. Patients seeking medical care at the college have allegedly been diverted to private laboratories for various experiments under the guise of blood banks and pathological tests.

Reports suggest that patients and their families are being steered towards personal pathological laboratories attached to the Assam Medical College, all carried out by a network of brokers. These brokers reportedly operate with impunity, securing hefty commissions in exchange for funneling patients to specific labs.

For years, vulnerable patients, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, have unwittingly become ensnared in this exploitative scheme.The modus operandi allegedly involves doctors recommending various pathological tests for patients, with brokers already in place to guide them towards specific laboratories within the college premises.

This scheme has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, including Ujjwal Kashyap, the BJP’s Dibrugarh district president, who has opposed this nefarious circle of brokers.The issue gained significant traction after it was brought to light through social media platforms, prompting a response from the Assam Medical College authorities. 

BJP leader Ujjwal Kashyap further highlighted the complicity of medical personnel by revealing prescriptions issued by doctors directing patients to private laboratories.
