3 Mizoram girls bagged medals at World Police and Fire Games in China
Three girls from Mizoram have created a new history in World Police and Fire Games. They brought laurels to the Country by bagging medals at the recently concluded World Police and Fire Games which held from 8-18 August in Chengdu in China.
Lalbuatsaihi and Vanlalduati from Mizoram bagged gold in Boxing 64 kg and 51 kg category, respectively. While another boxer from the same state, Lalfakmawii clinches silver in 81 kg in championship held in Chengdu. They are the employee of Mizoram Police.
Also another athlete from Assam archer Pallabi Das, clinched a gold medal in archery (traditional) event at the games.
The success story of the athletes from North-East does not end here but, Pallabi Boro, an employee of the Border Security Forces, collected a gold and two silver medals in the field and 3D archery category.
Beside her Tunlai Narzary from Assam, had bagged a gold medal in shotput in the Games. Narzary hails from Kokrajhar district of Assam. She is currently employed with the 20th Assam Police (IR) Battalion.
The World Police and Fire Games is a biennial athletic event, open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the world.
The WPFG Federation is an arm of the California Police Athletic Federation, an American non-profit organization.
In 2021 the host city will be Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In 2023 the host city will be Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada.
The Games attract approximately 10,000 entrants, which is slightly fewer than the Summer Olympic Games, but exceeds the number of participants in the Commonwealth Games.
In the early 2010s, The United Kingdom hosted all three events consecutively; the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, followed by the 2013 World Police and Fire Games in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and ending with Glasgow, Scotland, hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games – the first time all three events have been hosted by the same nation consecutively.
