Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated multi-specialty services at American Oncology Institute (AOI) at Babina Specialty Hospital yesterday evening. The formal inauguration programme was held at the campus of Babina Specialty Hospital, Sajiwa Jail Road, Imphal East. The Chief Minister also laid the Foundation Stone for the construction of Babina Multi-Specialty Hospital.

Along with the comprehensive cancer care facility, the hospital has now expanded its services to specialty departments like Neurology, Urology, Critical Care, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, etc to improve specialty care services in the State.

Giving a detailed presentation the Chairman and MD, Babina Healthcare Dr. Thangjam Dhabali informed the distinguished audience of around 300 people how with the challenge of Covid-19 the project was completed on time. He stressed various facets of the Cancer scenario of the North East region and that the cases of cancer are the highest in the NE region. In fact, now North East is known as the Cancer Capital of the country and thus the need for a specialty hospital in cancer mitigation is the need of the hour was felt by the Babina group echoed Dr. Th. Dhabali. He thanked the government under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, local MLA, and NEDFi for all the support.

Babina group also felicitated various vendors and workmen who were involved in the project.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh who was the Chief Guest of the function commented that the Babina group has engaged most vendors from Manipur itself which is a live example of PM Modi’s call for  Atmanirbhar Bharat.

N. Biren Singh equally lauded the officials of Babina Specialty Hospital for their support and cooperation during the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic by admitting COVID-19 positive patients for treatment even before the inauguration of the hospital itself. The humanitarian service of the hospital had eased a lot, of the hardship faced by people due to non-availability of beds during the pandemic, he added. He also expressed satisfaction on learning that the hospital had so far provided treatment facilities to more than 200 patients under PMJAY and over 500 patients under the CMHT Scheme.

Speaking to KRC Times he echoed that this institution is another feather in the cap for the state and he believes that this is another step forward toward making Manipur a Medical hub and encouraging medical tourism in the state.  

Health and Family Welfare; IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan, stated that the rate of getting infected with cancer had been gradually increasing thereby reaching an alarming situation, as many of our near and dear ones had become victims of cancer. He spoke about the revenue drained out from the State due to the treatment of cancer patients outside the State. However, with the opening of the specialty hospital, the hardship faced by the people would be eased a little as the State would be having the facility of treatment.

He appreciated the initiative of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh lessened the expenditure borne by people on medical treatment by giving the healthcare sector the first priority of his governance.

Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister L. Sushindro Meitei, Group CEO, Cancer Treatment Services International Dr. Jagprag Singh Gujral, and officials of AOI and Babina Healthcare also attended the programme.
