Manipur Organic Mission Agency, which participated in the 16th Agro Food & Organic Biotech India World Expo at Goa just before coming to Pragati Maidan, New Delhi has been awarded the Best of India Biz Award in the category- State Agriculture (Organic and Biotech) Agency.
In the just concluded 3-day World Expo 2019, held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from August 2 to August 3, ‘Organic Manipur’, the brand name of organic products from Manipur Organic Mission Agency, MOMA became a big hit with the Manipur stall receiving maximum sale and inquiry for its ranges of organic products like black rice, king chilli, turmeric, ginger, pineapple sold at the expo.
Another highlight of the success the brand ‘Ogranic Manipur’ registered at the World Expo was the signing of MoU between a Delhi based organic company and an organic producer from Manipur. Rima Food Industries of Manipur signed a MoU with Ambe Phytoextracts Pvt Ltd, New Delhi where Ambe Phytoextracts agreed to procure 100 metric tonne of organic black aromatic rice produced in Manipur. The contract was signed between Ambe Phytoextracts Pvt Ltd’s HP Singh and Rima Food Industries’ proprietor, Laishram Rima at the office of the joint secretary of ministry of agriculture & farmers Welfare at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi on August 4. Further both parties discussed the future possibilities of signing contracts for selling and buying of dried King Chilli and turmeric produced in Manipur.
MOMA is a body set up to promote organic farmers and market for their products under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region Scheme under Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. Realizing the potential of organic farming in the northeast region of the country the ministry of agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the central sector scheme in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, during the 12th plan period. The scheme aims at development of certified organic production in a value chain mode to link growers with consumers and to support the development of entire value chain starting from inputs, seeds, certification, to the creation of facilities for collection, aggregation, processing marketing and brand building initiative. So far, MOMA is instrumental in establishing six organic producing companies in Manipur, producing high value organic oranges, lemons, pineapples, turmeric, ginger and the hot, aromatic king chilly, comprising 500 farmers each.
Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) Project Director, K. Devdutta Sharma who was facilitated the signing of the MOU said the signing of the MoU was a big step for the brand ‘Organic Manipur’. He further informed that MOMA which participated in the 16th Agro Food & Organic Biotech India World Expo at Goa just before coming to Pragati Maidan, New Delhi has been awarded the Best of India Biz Award in the category- State Agriculture (Organic and Biotech) Agency.
“Starting from providing all the planting materials up to value added processing, the dept of horticulture & soil conversation is supporting the farmers by providing all technical knowhow and monitoring and overcoming challenges faced by the farmers”, informed Asst. Agriculture Officer L. Gibit Singh.
