Over 2000 IDPs receive Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance in Kangpokpi

Imphal : Minister Nemcha, the lone Manipur woman minister belonging to the Kuki community, handed over Rs. 1000- each to IDPs at the District Institute of Education and Training Centre.

A total of Rs 20 lakh was distributed as financial assistance among 2000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge at 11 relief camps in Champhai Sub-Division under the Kangpoki district of Manipur on Sunday, an official statement said.

Manipur Textiles, Commerce and Industries and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen distributed the financial assistance, the fourth one-time assistance from the Government of India, to provide clothing and personal belongings to people in relief camps.

Nemcha handed over Rs 1000 to each IDP at the District Institute of Education and Training Centre, Leikop relief camp in the northern Kakngpokpi district. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister expressed her heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the central government for its tireless and benevolent efforts for the well-being of IDPs in various relief camps.

She encouraged the IDPs to use their talents and skills to sustain their livelihoods by availing themselves of various government schemes. The Minister also announced plans to arrange a handloom cluster for those interested in weaving and suggested that the district administration open a shop for IDPs to sell their handloom and handicraft products.

The distribution event was attended by District Commissioner, Kangpokpi Mahesh Chaudhari, ADC Kangpokpi Shokhongam Baite, AC to DC Kangpokpi Samuel Misao, SDO Champhai Lamminlal Simte, and other officials. Additionally, over 60,000 individuals are taking shelter at different relief camps across the state in the aftermath of communal violence that started on May 3, 2023.
