Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday announced waiver of requirements of passport for Indian Sikh pilgrims travelling for pilgrimage to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur from India and the earliar condition of registion ten days in advance for entering Pakistan for Kartarpur pilgrimage.
Imran Khan said that Indian Sikh pilgrims will no longer be required to bring their passport and only a valid ID will be needed for entering Pakistan for Kartarpur pilgrimage. He also informed through a tweet that no fee (USD 20) will be charged from pilgrims on the opening day of Kartarpur Corridor on 9th November and on the day of Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary on 12th November.
Indian pilgrims of all faiths can use the corridor and the travel will be visa-free. Each visitor would be required to pay USD 20 as fee, though India has repeatedly taken up with Pakistan not to charge the Indian pilgrims.
Welcoming the waiver Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh in a tweet stated ‘happy & grateful for waiver of passport & advance registration conditions for Sikh pilgrims by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Government, but would urge Pakistan to apply this not just to Sikhs but all citizens of secular India. Also urge Pakistan PM to waive off $20 fee on all days instead of just two’.
Government of Pakistan in October issued a Rs. 50 commemorative coin on the occasion of 550th birthday of Guru Nanak.
