Eyewitnesses reported that the sudden impact triggered chaos, with passengers frantically jumping into the river to escape the wreckage

KRC TIMES Assam Bureau

A passenger boat collided with a mechanized boat on the Brahmaputra River near Dhubri on January 21, resulting in panic among passengers. The incident occurred around 9 am, as the passenger boat was en route from Arimari Ghat to Denar Kuti. The collision caused damage to several vehicles onboard and left multiple passengers injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that the sudden impact triggered chaos, with passengers frantically jumping into the river to escape the wreckage. Fortunately, the shallow water levels of the Brahmaputra helped prevent a more catastrophic outcome, allowing many passengers to avoid serious injury. Local sources claim that the mechanized boat, operating from Arimari Parghat, lacked government authorization, raising concerns about the regulation of boating operations in the region.

While the passenger boat was carrying approximately 120 people, the exact number of passengers on the mechanized boat remains unknown. Several two-wheelers aboard the mechanized boat were also damaged in the crash. Although no fatalities were reported, several passengers sustained injuries, and parts of the mechanized boat were seen sinking.
